Golf courses at PGA National Resort
Champion Course
Any avid golfer will have this 7,048-yard Jack Nicklaus designed Champion Course on their ‘must play’ list. This world-renowned course is home to an annual PGA TOUR stop and hosted the 1983 Ryder Cup. It features the infamous ‘Bear Trap’, three of the most demanding closing holes on the Tour. It is widely considered to be one of Florida’s most notable golf challenges, and in May 2008, USA Today stated that ‘The Bear Trap is one of the toughest stretches in golf’.
Palmer Course
The Palmer Course plays 7,079-yards, with greens that can be quite accommodating and invite players to take a chance if they dare as golfers are not overly penalized for missing the fairway or primary rough on most holes here. Golfers will enjoy a links-style routing, numerous grass bunkers and the sharing of a common green on holes 8 and 12. There is also a considerable amount of undulation through the fairway, presenting the opportunity for uneven lies and creative shot-making.
Estate Course
The generous fairways that stretch across this 6,694-yard course will often make stray tee shots more manageable, and the large, inviting greens help keep the course fun for the high handicapper. The Estates features a mixture of sand and water traps surrounding lush fairways and greens. Forced carries to many of the greens over either hazards or bunkers create a test that makes each round more enjoyable than the last.
Fazio Course
A par-72 that plays 7050 yards from the back tees, The Fazio course is a reinvention of The Haig, PGA National Resort’s original 18-hole course. While the routing has remained intact, many crucial elements have been improved to bring the golf course into the modern era. The greens were expanded in size, tee boxes and bunkers were reconfigured, and a set of player-friendly tees were introduced in accordance with the “Tee it Forward” initiative of the PGA and USGA.
