Role Overview
We’re looking for a Fabric Data Engineer to play a key role in supporting Golfbreaks' data expansion programme. This role specialises in the Microsoft technology stack and will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the data infrastructure that underpins our Business Intelligence (BI) activity.
As a Fabric Data Engineer, you will contribute to the creation of digital tools, processes, and data pipelines—from data ingestion through to extraction—to enable effective project delivery across the business in the coming years.
There is an opportunity to explore and grow your skill set into other elements of the platform, such as data science, as well as horizontally into Power Platform applications such as Power BI, Power Apps and Power Automate, should you choose to.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Identifying the best method for extracting data from source systems and ingestion into our data. Understand, and be able to draw on, effective use of tools such as PySpark Notebooks, and ETL flows.
- Building integrations with appropriate error handling and business logic to ensure there is no corruption, omission or duplication of ingested data.
- Applying the fundamentals and best practices of data transformation (such as cleaning and optimising the structure of data into actionable fact and dimension tables)
- Ensuring that data brought into the data platform meets the needs of downstream users, including the BI development team.
- Storing and transforming data using a medallion architecture, drawing on Lakehouse and warehouse assets as appropriate.
- Overseeing the operation and maintenance of daily and periodic pipelines, optimising efficiency, and proactively resolving issues when they occur.
- Helping to establish a self-serve approach to data reporting across the business.
You’ll also be expected to:
- Work independently within your role as part of a digital team, being responsible for data engineering and data platform assets.
- Collaborate with other digital professionals and business stakeholders
- Have confidence to ask questions, make suggestions and challenge the status quo
- Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills
- Commit to working inclusively
- Possess strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years’ Experience with data engineering tools e.g. Databricks, Snowflake or AWS
- Knowledge of good data structure with an understanding of data security
- Effective management of version control throughout the development process
- Evidence of organised ways of working to manage deliverables to time and quality
- Understanding of working processes with a range of stakeholders including colleagues and data owners.
- Knowledge of Microsoft’s productivity suite, including Teams and Office 365.
- A foundational understanding of SQL language
- excellent written and oral communication skills
Nice-to-haves:
- Knowledge of Microsoft’s Fabric platform, principally within the data engineering and data warehousing workflows (or equivalent).
- A DP-600 (fabric data engineer) certification from Microsoft.
- Any experience of supporting BI & data analytics software and languages such as Python, JSON, R, etc. would be a benefit but is not a requirement.
