Located on the Riviera Maya, 30 minutes south of Cancun sits El Camaleon Mayakoba Golf Club.
Situated within the Mayakoba Resort, this excellent golf course was designed by Greg Norman and opened for play in 2006. El Camaleon Golf Course also made history in 2007 when it hosted the inaugural Mayakoba Golf Classic, the first PGA TOUR event to be played outside of the US and Canada.
As well as a world-class golf course, visiting golfers will also find a state-of-the-art practice area including a Jim Mclean Golf School, and a contemporary clubhouse with a well-stocked pro shop along with the Koba Restaurant, which offers good food and great views of the closing holes.
El Camaleon Mayakoba Golf Course overview
El Camaleon takes its name from the Chameleon, primarily as the layout offers continually changing views as it meanders through three distinct ecosystems: the tropical Mayan jungle, mangrove wetlands and the Mexican Caribbean Sea coastline.
Principle features of the course involve the hazards such as cenotes (sinkholes), extensive bunkering and freshwater canals that wind their way through the property. At 7,024 yards from the back tees, this par-72 is built for championship golf especially with several of the holes having tight landing areas. Golfers looking to play at the best courses during their vacation should certainly include a round at this PGA TOUR venue.
Signature Holes
The par-3 15th is the signature hole at El Camaleon. It’s only 155 yards but runs alongside the Caribbean, and the strong ocean breeze always makes club selection tricky. Enjoy the sweeping views of Cozumel and the world’s second-largest coral reef.
