Old Links

Donegal, Ireland
Old Links course overview
The Old Links at Ballyliffin Golf Club opened for play in 1973 and is as traditional as links golf gets, where a perfect drive will often find an awkward lie. The fairways roll through wild dunes overlooking Pollan Beach and the North Atlantic beyond.
An Eddie Hackett design measuring just under 7,000 yards off the tips, the Old received some attention from Faldo’s design team in 2004, which was triggered in 1993 by a visit from the then world number one golfer, who commented ‘this is one of the most natural links courses I have ever played’.
In many ways, this put Ballyliffin on the map and although the newer Glashedy Links is more suited to professional tournaments due to its length, the Old Links is as good and ranks amongst Ireland’s top 20 courses.
Signature Holes
The par-3s on the Old Links are fantastic with the 179-yard 5th possibly the best. Called ‘The Tank’ it is an intimidating tee shot to a stage-like green on an elevated plateau surround by dunes.
Did You Know?
The Old Links has hosted the European Tour’s Irish Seniors Open and the Irish Women’s Close.
