What makes a golf holiday in Sotogrande so special?
Frequently seen topping the ranking lists, Real Club Valderrama is quite simply a must-play for every golfer during their lifetime. This spectacular layout is a Robert Trent Jones Snr design and hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup which saw Seve Ballesteros captain his European Team to victory.
More recently, Valderrama has been the site for European Tour victories for Spanish home favourite Sergio Garcia at the annual Andalucia Masters. Joining Valderrama in Spain’s Top 10 courses is Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. Another Robert Trent Jones family design, this course was opened in 1964 and is blessed with an understated elegance throughout.
The course is always kept in immaculate condition, with lightning-fast greens and crisp fairways. Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is another must-play and it is unlikely that there is another region in continental Europe which includes two higher-ranked courses than Sotogrande.
The quality in Sotogrande certainly isn’t restricted to Valderrama and Real Sotogrande however, with another customer favourite available here in the form of La Reserva. Many choose this course over some of its illustrious neighbours, with many tipping this to overtake some of the other courses in the region in Top 100 rankings as the course matures.
This magnificent Par 72 course was designed by American Cabell Robinson and only opened for play in 2004. It has already hosted European Tour events and its popularity and prestige grows with every season.
Sotogrande is undeniably one of our strongest regions for golf, and if the courses above haven’t tempted you already, there are some fabulous resorts here too, with a myriad of options at Alcaidesa, Almenara and San Roque.
