Overview
West Lancashire is a course of contrasts with greens on plateaus and greens in hollows, areas of safety and shelter all set amongst a sea of rough and sandy wilderness. In 1976, four young professionals competed in their final Open qualifier here - Sandy Lyle, Nick Faldo, Bernard Langer and Ian Woosnam - all four were eventual US Masters winners.
