Suffolk, England
Thorpeness Golf Course overview
Laid out in 1922 in 150 acres of natural heathland, this James Braid design is truly remarkable and has everything you would expect from an architect of Braid’s standard. In the latter part of 2010, substantial investment was made in upgrading the golf course, greatly enhancing its playability. This includes six tees, the alteration to seven holes, and the addition of new bunkers, swales and hollows.
Built on quick draining, sandy soil, it is playable throughout the year without temporary greens. A testament to the high standards is the hosting of regular PGA events and most recently the 2010 regional ‘Virgin Atlantic Pro-Am’. Furthermore, Thorepeness Golf Club was a proud host of the ‘EGU Senior Championships’ in June 2012.
