The Old Course
at Walton Heath Golf Club
Surrey, England
Overview
Walton Heath is one of the most famous and well respected clubs in England. The two championship courses on-site, the Old and New, are two of the best heathland courses you can find in the country, offering a truly special golfing experience. Between the two layouts, Walton Heath Golf Club has hosted close to 90 amateur and professional tournaments – namely the Ryder Cup in 1981, five European Opens, and most recently the Senior Open Championship.
Despite being a heathland gem, Walton Heath Golf Club has a great inland links feel to it. An abundance of heather line the fairways which can create real trouble if you are not straight off the tee. The key to Walton Heath is to focus on accuracy rather than length as being in play for your second shot is absolutely key.
The closing three holes are especially challenging, and with the 5th, these are probably the most memorable holes in the course. Walton Heath’s Old Course is often rated within the top 10 golf courses in England and would be the highlight on any Surry golf tour.
