The world’s best desert golf

The choice of golf in the UAE is spectacular, with the likes of Abu Dhabi Golf Club, the Jumeirah Golf Estate’s Earth Course, and the Emirates Golf Course Majlis all regular stops on the European Tour. However, it’s tough to find a weak layout in this part of the world, with the likes of Yas Links, Saadiyat Beach, and the Els Club all presenting courses worthy to make the list of the UAE's best courses.

Colin Montgomerie has always had a strong affinity with Dubai, winning the European Tour’s Order of Merit on eight separate occasions and hitting arguably the most-famed shot of his career on the 18th hole at the 1996 Dubai Desert Classic – a driver from the fairway to reach the Par 5 18th hole in two and secure a single-shot victory over Miguel Angel Jimenez. It’s only fitting then, that Montgomerie himself has added to the plethora of fantastic golf courses in the region with the sloping sensation, which is the Montgomerie Golf Club, Dubai.

Elsewhere in the region, the more recently opened Al Zorah Golf Club in Arman has garnered heaps of praise since opening in December 2015 and is just a short hop across the border for those staying in Dubai. Over in Ras Al Khaimah, The Al Hamra Golf Club also offers a world-class golf course, featuring immaculate conditioning and four picturesque and interconnected lagoons weaving through the course. The layout also features 9-holes of floodlit golf for those looking to squeeze in an additional few holes after dinner!

The UAE’s hidden gems

The UAE offers an abundance of things to see and do when you’re not on the fairways. From the spectacular architecture, culture, art, and nightlife as well as outdoor activities you will be entertained day and night.

Dubai is the perfect city to go sight-seeing. A haven of luxury and culture, it is not short of shopping malls and grand mosques. We recommend sampling international foods in the historic Deira district and shopping till you drop the luxurious, world-renowned Dubai Mall. Don’t forget to visit the Jumeirah Mosque at dusk, as this is when the elaborate Islamic carvings are lit up and the minarets cast shadows over the surrounding gardens.

If Abu Dhabi is on your golf holiday hitlist, you’re in for a treat. Home to the UAE’s largest mosque, it is a city full of immersive experiences. Ideal for families, we recommend a trip to Yas Island adventure park and the emirates park zoo where you can have breakfast with the giraffes. There is also a fantastic range of restaurants and bars in this city leaving you spoilt for choice.

For those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the larger cities, Ajman is perfect. From the flamingo filled Al Zorah nature reserve to the desert safaris and quiet beaches, you will be both entertained and relaxed. Ras Al Khaimah Is also worth visiting. Boasting archaeological sites and a famous ghost town, it is filled with great history and culture.
