Your summer break is planned and fast approaching, but have you thought about where you’ll be playing golf this winter? Instead of braving the cold, gloomy British fairways between November and March, hone your golf skills during a Winter Sun golf holiday where you can escape the mundane and relish a dash of warmth and sunshine to keep you going.
August and September are good times to book a well-priced flight, so look out for the upcoming long-haul sales and specials. And did you know that many European flights are considerably cheaper out of season, with October being the best time to travel. In addition, availability at European venues improves considerably, with the upside of a more peaceful break and no overcrowding on the golf course.
To help you on your way we've highlighted a few of our most popular Winter Sun destinations below.
Luxury all-inclusive golf and beach holidays
If you like to head off to more exotic destinations, then consider a trip to the tropical island of Mauritius - offering exquisite luxury hotels, soft white sandy beaches, spectacular volcanic mountains and 10 championship golf courses. The best time to travel is between November and March when the average temperature is 28°c and the rainfall is limited to around five days per month. For an extravagant break at all-inclusive 5-star resorts, Mauritius is a surprisingly affordable luxury option.
Once-in-a-lifetime golf and safari trips
The best time to travel to the Southern Hemisphere is between November and April and this means South Africa is a perfect destination over this period, with an average temperature of 23° to 27°c. If you’d like to tick a ‘Big Five’ safari off your bucket list, now is the time to book a fly-drive trip of a lifetime to sunny South Africa where you can experience incredible weather, breath taking scenery, the African bush and beautiful beaches all in one go.
Tailor your South African golf package according to your needs, whether it’s nightlife and entertainment or peace and quiet on a remote coastline, there are a myriad of possibilities. Best of all, thanks to the exchange rate, it’s also remarkably affordable at present.
Tropical beach breaks
If you like exotic all-inclusive holidays consider the Caribbean, which is a 9-hour flight away. With an average high of 26°c and eight hours of daily sun between November and March, this is the ultimate tropical Winter Sun destination.
A taste of paradise, Caribbean Islands such as Barbados are dream destinations for those in need of some serious relaxation in the sun. Brimming with white sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, turquoise seas, and rum cocktails, our Caribbean holidays are simply perfect for both golfers and non-golfers alike who want to work on their tan.
Luxury desert decadence
If shopping is your thing, why not travel to Dubai in the UAE for your fix in their ultra-modern, extravagant malls. The United Arab Emirates provides a fascinating blend of diversity, lavish architecture, high-end lifestyle and luxury resorts and, of course, quality golf. Seven hours from the UK, the UAE is a popular holiday destination with world-class service and a wide range of non-golfing activities.
Expect a subtropical climate with average temperatures ranging from 19°c in January to a scorching 36°c in August. The best time to travel is between November and April, perfect for a warm winter sun golf getaway.
Closer to home Winter Sun spots
Winter Sun destinations aren’t as inaccessible as they may seem. Cyprus, with its ideal year-round golfing climate and excellent golf courses, has fabulous offers for this coming winter.
It might not be tropical, but Portugal is also perfect for a spot of winter golf. With an average of 17°c you won’t be lounging on the beach, but at least you’d be swinging in the sunshine.
Turkey offers the ultimate all-inclusive golf break, with some of the most modern courses in the world and a collection of luxurious 5* resorts. Extended daylight hours and an average high of 16°c means this is a very pleasant winter destination.
Less than four hours away is Morocco, which, with an average of 21°c, promises warmth and is still close enough for even a weekend break. Out of peak season and offering a fantastic blend of culture, sunshine and golf, you will be hard-pressed to find a better value winter break.
