Dublin. Ireland’s capital City, a place of culture, history and Guinness – but what some people don’t know is that it’s also home to some of the best golf resorts and courses in the world.
Within 1 hour of Dublin airport you have a host of unbelievable world-class golf resorts, three of which, we were lucky enough to visit. This article follows an unforgettable 3-night and 4-round Irish golf trip back in August 2024.
Our first stop on our Irish adventure was the beautiful K Club. This five-star luxury resort is on hand with a full concierge and chauffeur team in operation to take care of your every need during your stay. The resort consists of two fantastic parkland courses – Palmer North and Palmer South. The Palmer North hosted 2006 Ryder Cup where Europe triumphed and will make a great test for any golfer.
Off the course, the hotel offers one of the best breakfasts at any hotel offering anything you can think of! Amongst the food, the hotel also offers a modern full spa and leisure facilities – perfect for relaxing after a long day on the course. If you’re looking for more authentic Irish hospitality, a short journey up the road from the hotel sits a stunning pub where you can savour a Guinness or two after a day on the course.
Next on the agenda brings us to the superb Druids Glen Resort. This modern five-star resort is set in the Irish countryside South of Dublin. A very grand and luxurious resort, Druids Glen offers superb rooms and definitely worth the upgrade charge to get views of the golf course as well.
The resort consists of two great parkland courses and always sit in good condition all year round due to the maintenance work they have recently completed. Druids Glen is one of the most picturesque parkland courses in Dublin and often dubbed the Augusta of Europe, especially with some of the special par 3’s they have on display!
A full spa and leisure facilities on-site are available to enjoy post round as well as excellent dining options catering for every palate, from casual golfer-style menu to more fine dining.
Our next destination takes us to the stunning Portmarnock Jameson Links. This great four-star resort resides only 10 minutes from Dublin airport and less than 10 minutes from Malahide town centre – a town that’s renowned for its vibrant nightlife. Being one of the very few links resorts in Ireland, Portmarnock is often in fabulous condition all year round and is recognised as one of the best links courses to play in Ireland.
The modern hotel consists of very spacious lobby area, a cozy bar and restaurant and comfortable rooms as well. Post-round, head to the pub-style bar which is great for watching some sport and having a few drinks with your group.
No Dublin golf trip is complete without visiting the superb European Club. Designed by the renowned and famed golf architect, Pat Ruddy, the course is often regarded as one of the best links courses in Ireland. He is still often at the golf club along with the rest of his family running the pro shop and the clubhouse – it truly is a unique experience on and off the golf course!
With 20 holes on the course (all to the same standard) it is a tough but fair test of golf and consists of beautiful unique pot bunkers with blackened railway sleepers lining them all, making accuracy key in playing this course. The course works its way through rugged coastal dunes and then untamed marshland with the odd water hazard thrown in for good measure – if the course wasn’t hard enough already.
A bucket list course and one that must be included on any Ireland itinerary – great to be paired with Druids Glen for a mixture of parkland and links golf. The signature of this course is that it has the largest green in the world on the 12th hole measuring 127 yards long – a great place to have a fun putt off!
A truly incredible and memorable golf trip. Being so close to the capital not only makes this easily accessible by plane and car, but you’re spoilt with iconic world-class golf all within close proximity. All of these golf courses and resorts offer an unrivaled experience for golf enthusiasts of all levels.
From luxurious accommodations to world-class golf challenges, this trip seamlessly combines the beauty of Ireland’s landscapes and authenticity with some of the best golf in the world.
