Having never been to Costa Brava or Girona before, I was very excited to get out there and experience this northeastern region of Spain for myself. And I can safely say I wasn’t disappointed!

I flew into Barcelona airport from London Gatwick and had a 2-hour transfer to our first stop and the most northly destination on the trip, the beautiful Torremirona Golf Resort.

Torremirona Golf Resort

Tucked away in the charming region of Navata on the Costa Brava, Torremirona Golf Resort is a real gem! It’s a cosy four-star spot with super friendly staff— the perfect place for a chilled-out golf holiday. The rooms? They’re roomy and offer stunning views right over the golf course.

Now, about the TorreMirona golf course — it's designed to suit any golfer, no matter your skill level, with all the high-end facilities you’d hope for, such as a driving range, chipping area, and putting green. The short par-3 10th is a fantastic hole. You must hit over water to reach a well-guarded green, and the hotel makes a stunning backdrop.

And if you fancy a bite, the resort’s restaurant has an amazing menu that won’t disappoint. But if you’re in the mood for a little adventure, the town of Figueres is just a 20-minute taxi ride away. It’s perfect for a day of exploring!

Perelada Golf Resort

Next up, we rolled into the Perelada Golf Resort, just a quick 15-minute jaunt east of Torremirona. Let me tell you, this place is the definition of five-star. The guest rooms are huge and the whole vibe is all about kicking back and recharging. And they really know how to deliver that relaxing experience.

There’s no shortage of things to do here. Fancy a wine spa? They’ve got it. Or maybe exploring a vineyard or checking out a castle that doubles as a venue for weddings and music festivals? Yep, they have those too, not to mention padel courts for a quick game.

Bedroom and Indoor Pool Area

The Perelada golf course itself is pretty forgiving for the casual golfer but still has a few tricks up its sleeve to keep the more serious golfers on their toes. If you’re looking for a spot that’s more than just golf and offers a slice of the high life, this is the place to be.

La Costa Hotel

We headed half an hour south down the coast and checked into the lovely four-star La Costa Hotel. If you're dreaming of a beach getaway, this place is just about perfect—it's only a two-minute stroll from the beach! The hotel itself is packed with things to do. There’s a swimming pool, plus padel and tennis courts. You can easily spend hours here just enjoying the facilities!

Golf De Pals

On-site at La Costa hotel you will find Golf de Pals, a very unique course that is tree lined throughout the 18 holes. The condition was unreal! Tee boxes, fairways and greens were immaculate.

This is a fantastic course for the golfing purist, as if you hit a bad shot 9 times out of 10 you will find your ball, but it will cost you a shot as you’ll likely have to chip out from the trees back onto the fairway. Essentially, bad shots are punished and good shots are rewarded – a true golf experience. There was also really friendly staff which enhanced the experience.

Alongside this, we managed to sneak out to a 9-hole course called Serra de Pals which is a short transfer away and perfect for clients wanting to play for a couple of hours in the afternoon. And it’s a nice change of pace from Golf de Pals, offering a completely different layout to mix things up.

Hotel San Jorge

Next up, we headed just 20 minutes down the coast to San Jorge. This four-star hotel took my breath away! The rooms are spacious and packed with all the amenities you could want. Definitely consider upgrading to a sea view room because the views are absolutely stunning.

If you’re into seafood, you've got to try La Taverna del Mar—it's just a 10-minute walk down the beach. And if you’re up for more culinary adventures, there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby to check out some local flavours.

Golf d’Aro

Just a quick 10-minute drive from Hotel San Jorge up into the mountains, and you'll find yourself at Golf d’Aro. This course is not only stunning but offers incredible views of the Costa Brava from its elevated position. Honestly, it's so breathtaking up there, you might find yourself getting distracted from your game!

The course has its narrow spots where you’ll need to keep your wits about you. Make sure your shots are straight, or you might end up hunting for your ball down the mountain side.

After your round, the clubhouse is the perfect spot to refuel. The food is top-notch—I have to recommend the Tomato, Avocado, and Mozzarella salad; it's simply delicious.

Girona

While we were on our trip, we took a day to explore the city of Girona, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The River Onyar works right through the city, with charming little side streets spilling into open squares—it’s just stunning!

The city is engulfed with culture and history, and we were shown where part of the Game of Thrones series was film. So, if you are a GOT fan it is a must see! There are plenty of bars and restaurants on offer that is perfect for a 4-night golf break if you want to try something different each night.

Girona Town

Hotel Carlemany

This four-star hotel is situated in the heart of Girona which makes for the perfect location. As Girona isn’t the biggest city you literally can walk to anywhere within 30 mins from Hotel Carlemany. The rooms are clean and comfortable, exactly what you require from a city hotel alongside with a nice restaurant on-site.

PGA Camiral – Stadium course

The Stadium Course at PGA Camiral is the perfect way to end a truly spectacular trip. This course is number 2 in Spain and its obvious why. The conditions and layout of the holes are perfection and it’s difficult to put into words just how good this setup is. Each hole you play you’ll just want to take your phone to capture the amazing landscape.

Not only is the golf course five-star quality but the service is top notch too. The staff are so friendly and helpful and are a big part of giving you the ultimate golfing experience. If you are in this area, you definitely need to put this on your list. As well as this the pro shop and clubhouse are again to the same five-star standard.

Our verdict

The Costa Brava is an exceptional, albeit slightly underrated golf destination. The excellent golf accompanied by an array of exceptional accommodation options, from all-encompassing resorts to lovely beachfront hotels and city centre accommodation, suits golfers to a tee. Add in sightseeing on a day trip to Girona for the complete package!
