Murcar Links Golf Club
Aberdeen, Scotland
Murcar Links Golf Club overview
Murcar Links originally opened for play in 1909 and was designed by Archie Simpson, who was the professional at neighboring Royal Aberdeen Golf Club. James Braid made some refinements in the 1930s but it is essentially the same layout today.
Located just 10 minutes north of Aberdeen city, Murcar is perfectly located on a rugged stretch of coastline that has fantastic views out over the North Sea.
More recent improvements have been made to the course along with a refurbished clubhouse and state of the art practice facilities. Murcar is consistently ranked amongst Scotland’s top 35 courses and when combined with Royal Aberdeen, Cruden Bay and Trump International Golf Links, you have a pretty formidable golf vacation.
Murcar Links Golf Course overview
A par-71 and just over 6500 yards off the tips, Murcar is not long by modern standards but with huge sand dunes, tight undulating fairways, and vicious heathery rough, it is a real challenge. Built on classic links land and with magnificent views from elevated tees, there are a few blind shots with greens nestled amongst the dunes. When the wind blows it is an absolute brute, but whatever the weather, it is a must-play when in this region.
Signature hole
The par-4 7th hole called Serpentine is a fun challenge. Enjoy the panoramic views from the tee, as you will then need full concentration with your drive in order to avoid a snaking burn, a ravine on the right, and thick rough on the left.
Did You Know?
Murcar became the first private club in the North of Scotland to permit play on Sundays. There is also a 9-hole course at Murcar called the Strabathie, named after the burn which comes into play on 6 holes.
