Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club overview
A consistent feature in Scotland’s Top 100 Golf Courses, the Newburgh on Ythan Championship Links is a 6,423-yard par-72 course, which although is quite short in length, is a real test for golfers of all abilities. It's idyllic positioning on the Ythan Estuary, along Aberdeenshire’s coastline, means that golfers can expect beautiful views of the nearby Sands of Forvie National Nature Reserve and the North Sea.
Founded in 1888, Newburgh on Ythan started as a nine-hole links course and was extended to a full 18 holes in 1994. The original back 9 is old fashioned links golf at its finest, with firm fairways, sandy ridges, and punchbowl greens. The more modern front 9 and relatively new (2001) clubhouse completes what is now regarded as a true hidden gem.
Off the course, guests can warm up in the 2 netted bays adjacent to the clubhouse or utilize a more extensive practice area that includes a 6-hole par 3 course just a short walk away.
Signature Holes
The signature hole at Newburgh on Ythan is the tricky 12th. A par-4 which measures 432yards requires golfers to play an accurate drive followed by a strong approach shot to a large undulating green.
