Capitol Hill Golf Club
Alabama, USA
Capitol Hill Golf Club overview
Situated eight miles north of Alabama’s state capital, Capitol Hill Golf Club is home to three championship courses. Spread across 1,500 acres of natural landscaping, these three 18-hole layouts each bring a unique playing experience to Capitol Hill, which was named the 2nd best public golf club in the country by Golf World.
The three are part of the 26 courses across Alabama that make up the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, a well-renowned collection of some of the best designs in the country. To make the most of your trip, practice your game on the 360-degree driving range before your round, then grab a bite to eat in the stylish clubhouse.
Golf courses at Capitol Hill
There are three golf courses at Capitol Hill which offer some of the best golf on the Robert Trent Jones Trail. The Judge Course, one of the toughest and longest on the Trail, provides magnificent views of the Montgomery skyline from the 1st tee and features an abundance of hazards to avoid as you play.
The Legislator Course, a more traditional parkland layout, provides a relaxed experience with fewer water hazards than the others. As the shortest of the three courses, it demands accuracy, but you will not be disappointed as you overlook the beautiful Alabama River.
Inspired by Scottish links golf, the Senator Course differs from Jones’s signature style by including plenty of pot bunkers and mounds to catch you out. Unlike most Scottish links, the yardage on this course reaches over 7,600 from the back tees, meaning long and accurate shots are required to succeed here.

Senator Course
Having taken inspiration from classic Scottish links course features, the Senator Course has an incredible range of elevation throughout, and over 140 pot bunkers to contend with. To bring more challenges, the course features mounds of up to 40 feet in height, which creates blind shots throughout the round. This feature may provide some difficulty, but it brings a sense of privacy to the course, meaning you and your group can enjoy your round in peace.
Judge Course
Labeled by Golf Magazine as one of the top 10 public courses in America worthy of hosting the U.S. Open, the Judge Course is the most challenging course of the three at Capitol Hill. Stretching an impressive 7,813 yards, it is certainly the longest layout at the club, and with water hazards lurking on almost every hole, accuracy is key here.
Legislator Course
The most traditional layout of the three at Capitol Hill, the par-72 Legislator Course will provide an unforgettable experience to golfers of all abilities. The course is the shortest at the club and is lined with pine trees while being played along the edge of an impressive bluff. Accuracy will be important here to avoid the sand and dramatic water features.
