Gullane Golf Club
Edinburgh & East Lothian, Scotland
Gullane Golf Club overview
Located just 20 miles east of Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh in the heart of East Lothian, Gullane Golf Club offers three courses laid out over prime seaside land. Golf has been played over the links here for more than 350 years, although the club itself was not formed until 1882 when eight gentlemen of Gullane agreed that to keep the links in good order an official club should be created.
The first course was established in 1884 and unimaginatively named Gullane 1, with 2 laid out in 1898 and 3 in 1910. Now a thriving members club that warmly accepts visitors, Gullane sits proudly next to Muirfield along this golfing mecca known as Scotland’s Golf Coast, which boasts the best climate in Scotland and year-round playing conditions.
Golf Courses
Gullane Golf Club is a private members club with three links courses. No. 1 is the best known and has hosted Open Championship Final Qualifying and the European Tour’s Scottish Open. Willie Park laid out both 2 and 3 which are shorter than 1 but also very enjoyable rounds of golf, and we highly recommend combining 1 with 2 to make an unforgettable 36-hole day out.
Golf courses at Gullane Golf Club
Gullane No. 1
The premier course at Gullane Golf Club, Gullane No.1 is a regular Open Championship Final Qualifying Course and multiple host of the European Tour’s Scottish Open. Located just 20 miles east of Edinburgh along Scotland’s Golf Coast and right next door to the world-famous Muirfield, Gullane No.1 is a great test of golf with spectacular views across the Firth of Forth. Consistently ranked amongst Scotland’s top 20 golf courses.
Gullane No.2 Course
Laid out in 1898 by two-time Open Championship winner Willie Park Jnr, Gullane No.2 is shorter than No.1 at 6400 yards off the tips but presents an equally stern test. Consistently ranked amongst Scotland’s top 50 golf courses and with spectacular scenery across the Firth of Forth and Aberlady Bay, the first seven holes run alongside No.1 before sweeping down to a nature reserve and then turning home at 13. If you play No.2 along with No.1 you will have a memorable day at Gullane.
Gullane No.3 Course
Maintained to the same high standards as No.1 and 2 at Gullane, the No.3 course is simply a scaled-down version of its older siblings. Tight and tricky, with numerous bunkers and sloping greens, this is a course for straight hitters whereby accurate approach play and good parting are essential to score well. The first and last three holes are flat with the 4th through 15th set out over and around Gullane Hill, offering spectacular views across the Firth of Forth and neighboring courses.
