Moray Golf Club
Scottish Highlands, Scotland
Moray Golf Club overview
Moray Golf Club, located in the Scottish Highlands an hour east of Inverness, actually offers two courses, with the Old considered one of the best links courses in Scotland and a fitting tribute to the artistry of Old Tom Morris (creator of St Andrews and Carnoustie amongst other world-famous courses). For those wanting a 36-hole day out, then Henry Cotton’s shorter and tighter New Course is the perfect complement.
With dramatic views of the North Sea, rippled gorse lined fairways, pot bunkers, and smooth fast greens, the Old Course was designed in 1889 and is a superb test of golf with seven par fours over 400 yards. Throw in some inevitable wind and you had better bring you A-game.
Old Course at Moray Golf Club overview
The Old Course at Moray Golf Club is considered one of the best links courses in Scotland and a fitting tribute to the artistry of Old Tom Morris, the man responsible for St Andrews, Carnoustie, and many other world-famous courses.
Designed in 1889 and a par-71 measuring 6,572-yards, players are advised to watch out for the high winds which often whip across the cliffs. It is a superb test of golf with deep bunkers, gorse lined fairways, slick greens and seven par fours over 400 yards. A good example is the 18th or aptly named ‘Home’, a great finishing hole that consists of a bunker strewn fairway and green protected by the equally fittingly named ‘Hells Bunker’, not to mention the out of bounds that stretches all down the right side.
Signature Holes
The 423-yard par-4 11th Hole, aptly named ‘Lighthouse’. A challenging hole which incorporates a variety of different hazards in its design and truly exceptional views of the traditional Covesea Lighthouse.
Did You Know?
In the early years, the membership at Moray Golf Club included a number of whisky distillers, who laid down a variety of malts which are still being enjoyed today. From Glen Grant to Macallan and the current ‘club malt’ of Glen Moray.
