Ballybunion Golf Club overview
Located in South West Ireland, Ballybunion Golf Club is situated amongst the dunes on the rugged Atlantic coastline. The club had a turbulent start to its life. Formed in 1893 as a 12-hole course it folded a few years later due to financial problems; reopening in 1906 as a 9-hole course before extending what is now the Old Course to 18-holes in 1926. The Cashen Course was added in 1982 to create an exceptional 36-hole facility.
These days golfers will find a warm welcome on arrival at the modern clubhouse with a restaurant plus two bars and well-stocked pro-shop offering plenty of logoed merchandise. Visitors also have complimentary use of the club’s practice facilities during their visit.

Home to 36 holes of stunning links golf, Ballybunion Golf Club is a name recognized as one of the best in the world, the Old Course has been wowing visitors for decades and is considered by many as the best in the Republic of Ireland. The much newer Cashen Course designed by Trent Jones Snr is also a great test, shorter in length but small greens, tight fairways and huge sand dunes create a tough challenge.

Cashen Course
Acknowledging it lies in the shadow of one of the world’s great links courses, the Cashen is nonetheless a very good alternative. Although a course that divides opinion due to the severity of the challenge, it is a beautifully natural layout blending in perfectly with the surroundings. Characterized by small, contoured greens and tight, undulating fairways its difficulty is often underestimated due to the modest yardage. Makes for a perfect 36-hole day in conjunction with the Old Course.
Old Course
The Old Course at Ballybunion is one of the true bucket-list courses on the Emerald Isle. A spectacular links layout, this piece of amazing links land is considered by many to be the spiritual home of golf in Ireland. The Old Course makes great use of the towering sand dunes and its position next to the Atlantic Ocean to create a challenging yet spellbinding round of golf that will live long in your memory. Typically ranked number one course in Ireland.
