Dooks Golf Club overview
Founded in 1889, Dooks Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs in Ireland. Situated on the southern shores of Dingle Bay on the Iveragh Peninsula, 35-minute drive west of Killarney; it is also one of Ireland’s most naturally stunning golf courses. To the north you have the bay, to the south and east you have MacGillycuddy's Reeks, Ireland’s highest mountain range whilst to the west lies the sandy Rossbeigh Peninsula.

Originally a 9-hole course, it has gone through several changes over the years with Martin Hawtree the latest person to leave his mark at Dooks in 2006. One of the primary strengths of Dooks Golf Club is that golfers who visit get to experience pure links golf at one of Ireland’s top ‘hidden gems’ without needing to pay a premium green fee.
Dooks is an ideal place for people looking for a more tranquil setting to experience a superb links course, where the defence is not in the length of the course (approximately 6500 yards from the back tees) but the layout.
Signature Holes
The par-3, 171-yard 13th is a memorable hole that involves a tee box that sits below the green, therefore sheltering golfers from the wind which often causes misjudged club selection. Add to that a stunning mountain backdrop and an amphitheater type green and you can be sure it will be remembered.
Did You Know?
In 1963 Dooks’ 75-year land lease expired, and they were told to vacate by the landowner. Subsequently, members of the club ran a “Save Dooks Campaign” which included an interview on TV that was broadcast across Ireland.
In 1965, the landowner agreed to sell to the members for £7,000. This may seem a trivial amount now but in 1965 it was seven times the amount the club generated annually.
