Killeen Course
at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club
Killarney, Ireland
Killeen Course overview
The Killeen Course offers great parkland golf with stunning vistas of the nearby Macgillycuddy's Reeks (Ireland’s highest mountain range) and the impressive lakeside setting of Lough Leane, the largest freshwater lake in the south-west.
The course is challenging and can be lengthened to 7252-yards from the championship tees, which if there is a wind blowing in off the lake can be a test even for the best players. Due to its lakeside position, water features heavily on many of the holes, offering a great defense. The layout provides great variety and boasts five par-5’s making length off the tee a useful asset.
The 18th hole which plays back towards the clubhouse is particularly memorable with water in play all down the left side and Gary Player was quoted as saying the par-4 13th hole was “perhaps one of the world’s greatest inland golf holes”.
Did You Know?
The Killeen Course has been a host of multiple Irish Opens for the European Tour. Sir Nick Faldo won the first two events here in 1991 and 1992.
