Waterville Golf Links

Although golf dates back to 1889 at Waterville, the magnificent links of today opened in 1973. Irish born American John ‘Jack’ Mulcahy had the vision of creating the most testing golf links in the world and commissioned the help of foremost links architect Eddie Hackett along with personal friend Claude Harmon (past Masters champion and head professional at Winged Foot Golf Club).

The original nine holes were reconfigured and expanded to create today’s front nine, and combined with a new, more rugged and exposed back nine. More recently Tom Fazio was brought in to do a full renovation and make the course more playable for all levels of golfer to enjoy, and the clubhouse has also been completely upgraded, making Waterville one of the premier golf experiences in Ireland.

Waterville Golf Course overview

Waterville Golf Links dates back to 1889 and is widely regarded as one of the finest links courses in the world. Located in South West Ireland on the edge of Ballinskelligs Bay, this Eddie Hackett and Tom Fazio designed course measures close to 7400 yards off the tips but offers multiple tee boxes for all levels of golfer.

Situated on an amazing piece of links land, the dramatic design features dune and fescue lined fairways, strategic bunkering and undulating putting surfaces that will require you’re A-game.

Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara chose Waterville as their preferred Open Championship ‘tune-up’ venue, which may have also had something to do with the incredible salmon and sea trout fishing in the surrounding rivers and lakes.
