El Campeon Course overview

El Campeón is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida, having been built in 1917 by George O’Neil. Originally called the “Florida Chain-o-Lakes Country Club” followed by the “Floridan Country Club,” the course was the idea of William J. Howey, who wanted to build a golf course to complement the booming Florida orange grove industry in the area.

Today, El Campeón is regarded as one of the best courses in Central Florida, having been ranked the #9 best course layout in the US in 2016 by GolfAdvisor. The course features undulation changes atypical of Florida, with up to 85 feet of elevation changes. Mature pine and magnolia trees line the fairways and great natural wildlife can be seen throughout the round.

Signature Holes

The signature hole is the par 5 17th hole known as “Devil’s Delight.” Golfers are required to play through a double dogleg before facing a tree in the middle of the fairway. Once around the tree, golfers will need to get their shot over bunkers and a lake onto the sloping green.
