Country Club of Whispering Pines Overview
Located in the famous Sandhills region of North Carolina and just 8 miles north of Pinehurst Village is the Country Club of Whispering Pines. Home to 36-holes of golf, The Pines, and The River courses.
The Country Club offers all you will need for an enjoyable day of golf from the stocked pro-shop to the Ellis Maples Grill which serves up a fine selection of dishes created from much of the local produce. Warm up on the range and short-game facilities before taking on either the Pines or River courses.
Golf courses at the Country Club of Whispering Pines
The Ellis Maples-designed Pines Course (formerly the East) is the longer of the two at Whispering Pines and was created to reflect an ‘inland links’ feel. The fairways are generously wide and the renovated putting Bermuda grass greens are excellent surfaces to putt on. Open, hardpan waste areas covered in the pine straw and ‘love grass’ are found throughout the course and are there to replicate the elements the great Donald Ross enjoyed seeing on his designs.
Reminiscent of what you would expect to find in the foothills of North Carolina, the River Course (formerly the West) is also an Ellis Maples design that draws a lot of inspiration from the Donald Ross courses in the local area, understandably so, as Ellis Maples was godson to Ross. Elevation changes, mature oak trees that line the fairways, lakes, and streams are the key ingredients of The River course. Shorter than its sister, The River places a great deal of importance on strategy and shot-making.

Pines Course
The Pines Course is the epitome of a traditional inland links golf course. The combination of the course’s length, generous fairways, and subtle undulations provide a unique golf test in this Sandhills area. The newly renovated (2016) Champion Bermuda greens are the ideal surface for golfers to enjoy a difficult but fantastic putting experience.
River Course
The River Course offers a traditional parkland Pinehurst golf experience. Shorter in length with a wide variety of tee boxes means that golfers of all abilities can feel comfortable. However, the narrow fairways, thick rough and overhanging oak trees still demand precise shot-making.
