The Gleneagles Resort overview

The Gleneagles Hotel is positioned in the heart of beautiful Perthshire, just one hour’s drive from the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Renowned for luxury and elegance and as a haven for golfers, it has long been established as one of the world’s premier resorts.

Featuring 232 bedrooms, including 26 suites the hotel offers a great mix of classic décor and modern amenities. Four restaurants ensure plenty of choice for foodies, including Scotland’s only two Michelin starred Andrew Fairlie Restaurant. In addition to the high-quality leisure and spa facilities, the resort offers a wide range of outdoor pursuits such as shooting, Salmon fishing, off-road driving, horse-riding, gun dog training, and guided hiking.

Golfers are spoilt for choice at Gleneagles with three championship courses, The Queen’s Course, The King’s Course and the host venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup – The PGA Centenary Course.

Golf Courses

Gleneagles is home to three excellent and varied golf courses with each offering a different type of experience.

The Queen’s Course is a delightful par-68 which offers an easier round of golf but is arguably the most scenic of the trio, where holes weave themselves through charming woodland and undulating moorland.

The King’s Course is one of the world’s great moorland courses, offering sweeping views of the surrounding mountains from fairways that snake their way through a combination of gorse and heather lined rough.

The PGA Centenary Course is Jack Nicklaus’ modern creation and is the ‘big’ course at Gleneagles. Hosting the 2014 Ryder Cup and 2019 Solheim Cup the PGA Centenary offers a purpose-built ‘stadium course’ that gives great spectator viewing and offers golfers a tough challenge with its length.

Accommodation

The magnificent rooms at Gleneagles offer guests a certain country house elegance, with all the design and furnishings inspired by the surrounding landscape. With eight room and suite categories available there is plenty of choice with rooms ranging from Manor Rooms to Estate Rooms in the main house which provide sweeping views of the pristine grounds. All of the spacious rooms feature luxury bathrooms and modern comforts such as flat-screen TV’s, pillow menus and Wi-Fi.

Restaurant & Bars

The Gleneagles Resort has a great collection of restaurants and bars which can make decision making a challenge if you are only staying for a short time! For fine dining, guests have the choice of The Strathearn Restaurant – where you can expect theatre from the traditional gueridon service, heat from the flambé and excellent dishes created from Scotland’s finest produce.

Alternatively, try the Andrew Fairlie Restaurant – a two Michelin-starred gastronomic delight, famous for its simple yet indulgent French-inspired cooking. For more casual dining you can choose from the Birnam Brasserie, The Dormy and the Garden Café.

Gleneagles also has four bars available so whether you want the 1920’s themed American Bar, the elegant Century Bar, the casual Auchterarder 70 bar (known for its craft beer and gin) or the unique al fresco Blue Bar, there is a place to suit all moods and tastes.

Spa & Leisure

Guests of Gleneagles will find a first-class Spa facility offering a range of treatments as well as two indoor pools (one for adults and one for families) with sauna and steam room. The resort also has a state-of-the-art gym which offers fitness classes to hotel guests for a fee.

Location

The Gleneagles Resort is located in the town of Auchterarder, Perthshire, in Central Scotland on an 850-acre estate. For international travellers, the resort is 1 hour from Edinburgh Airport and similarly just 1 hour from Glasgow International Airport. For visitors coming to Gleneagles to golf for the day from St Andrews the journey time is 1hour 10minutes.

On Site Activities

Aside from the three spectacular golf courses, Gleneagles Resort really does offer an immense range of leisure activities to keep you entertained. From off-roading to clay pigeon shooting to fishing for wild Atlantic Salmon there are activities for all interests. The full list of pursuits available at the resort is truly impressive!

Post Round

The Dormy is popular with members and hotel guests alike, due in part to its excellent atmosphere, good food and views across the King’s and Queen’s Courses. Come to this busy clubhouse restaurant setting for a post-round meal/snack or beverage.

Did You Know

During World War Two the hotel closed, becoming a military hospital and later a miners’ rehabilitation center.

Golf courses at The Gleneagles Resort

The King's Course

The King’s Course at Gleneagles is one of the finest examples of a moorland golf course in the world and is arguably Scotland’s best inland course. This James Braid masterpiece is laid out on a superb parcel of land, with sweeping mountain views and holes that blend naturally with the landscape. Opened in 1919 and measuring just under 6800 yards off the tips, the King’s is regarded as Gleneagles’ flagship course and consistently ranked amongst the top 50 in Britain.

The Queen's Course

The Queen’s Course at Gleneagles is a delightful shorter course that offers a great experience in a wonderful setting, surrounded by undulating moorland, rising mountains, heather lined fairways and mature woodland. The easiest course on the property, the Queen’s Course offers a traditional layout where golfers can simply admire the views as they plot their way around. Designed by James Braid in 1917 and less than 6000 yards of the tips.

PGA Centenary Course

The PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles is the big brother to the Queen’s Course and King’s Course. A very different experience, golfers here will find a challenging championship course that is much longer than its siblings and plays more like a traditional parkland resort course. With numerous teeing positions, golfers can decide how difficult they want their round to be as they follow in the footsteps of the 2014 Ryder Cup stars. The surrounding scenery is majestic too.
