Kingsbarns Golf Links
St Andrews, Scotland
Kingsbarns Golf Links overview
Golf has been played on and off at the site of the current Kingsbarns Golf Links since 1793. Despite the history, this incredible place only opened in the year 2000; although you would be forgiven for thinking it has been around for much longer. Located just east of St Andrews on the Fife coast it is one of only a few recent golf course developments on coastal links land in the United Kingdom.
In keeping with its reputation as a world-class venue, the facilities are excellent, from the quality practice facilities (including a driving range where complimentary balls are given) to the elegant clubhouse overlooking the course and ocean. We highly recommend this venue on a trip to the east side of Scotland.
Kingsbarns Golf Course overview
The par-72, 7204-yard links Kingsbarns course designed by Kyle Phillips has plenty of ‘wow’ factor, with ocean views from nearly all points on the golf course. It is a great layout and a perfect accompaniment to time spent and played in St Andrews which is just 7 miles up the coast.
Kingsbarns is part of the rotation alongside Carnoustie and the Old Course at St Andrews in the European Tour’s highly regarded Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Kingsbarns is certainly, one of the best in UK & Ireland and has been consistently listed in the World Top 100 Golf Course lists since its opening in 2000.
Signature Holes
There are two standout holes at Kingsbarns, the first is the long par-5 12th which has the ocean running all down the left-hand side which culminates in a narrow 70-yard green which slopes from back to front.
The other signature hole is the par-3 15th, where the tee shot is played over the ocean onto a raised green, with water crashing around the rocks below the green. Although you do have plenty of room to the left it is still unnerving to see so much ocean in front of you as you stand on the tee box.
Did You Know?
Kingsbarns was the first course to open in Scotland following the turn of the century.
