Ladybank Golf Club
St Andrews, Scotland
Ladybank Golf Club overview
Formed in 1879 with a six hole course laid out by Old Tom Morris, Ladybank grew to nine holes in 1910 and eighteen in 1961. It is now widely regarded as one of the finest inland layouts in the British Isles and consistently ranked amongst Scotland’s top 50 courses, which is no mean feat in this land of famous links.
Ladybank Golf Course overview
Ladybank is situated amidst heather, pines and silver birch trees, and provides great relief from the mighty links in this region. Located 30 minutes inland from St Andrews and classified as a heathland course, it measures over 6800 yards from the championship tees and has hosted Open Championship Final Qualifying multiple times.
Accuracy and positioning are all important, with keeping the ball in play a top priority. The fairways are crisp and relatively flat, unlike an undulating links, and the small greens always in outstanding condition. If you can hit a long straight ball then you will be rewarded handsomely.
Signature Holes
The par-4 9th hole measures 401 yards off the tips and is a demanding right to left dogleg with a tree guarding the corner and a tricky two-tiered green.
Did You Know?
Ladybank became an Open Championship Final Qualifying venue in 1978 and in 1983 it held an exhibition match between Jack Nicklaus and Seve Ballesteros.
