Monifieth Golf Links Club overview
Located 35 minutes north of St Andrews and just 15 minutes from Carnoustie, Monifieth is a unique club in so much as there are three golf clubs that play over the links – Monifieth (formed in 1858), Grange & Broughty (1878) and Ladies Panmure (1893). There are actually two links courses here called the Medal and shorter Ashludie, with the former starting out as a nine-hole course in 1845 (called Panmure Golf Club) and extended to 18 in 1880.
Monifieth Golf Links Course overview
The Medal Course at Monifieth is hugely underrated and one to include as a hidden gem when putting your St Andrews-Carnoustie-Kingsbarns itinerary together. Set inland from the coastline and bounded on one side by the main railway line, the Medal is that unique blend of links and parkland with undulating fairways, many of which are tree-lined, and old dune ridges. The greens are large, fast and firm and are protected by strategic bunkering.
A par-71 and measuring over 6600 yards off the tips, the Medal at Monifieth consistently ranks amongst the top 60 in Scotland and is regarded as a tough and uncompromising course.
Signature Holes
The par-4 7th hole called North Buddon measures 417 yards off the back tees and is a beautiful looking hole. Your drive must carry a burn onto the fairway that meanders through shallow dunes.
Did You Know?
Monifieth has an excellent tradition of producing top quality golfers, with 4-time Walker Cup player, Ian Hutcheon, considered one of the best amateur golfers in the world during the 1970s and early 80s.
