Eden Course at St Andrews overview
The Eden Course is a 6112-yard par-70 links course that has a natural feel and flow to it that plays much harder than the scorecard suggests. Designed by Harry Colt in 1914 the use of deep bunkers, significantly contoured greens and utilizing the humps and hollows of the terrain are hallmarks of his layout.
Although fairways are quite wide, out of bounds is often in play which means blasting a driver is not always the appropriate option, the strategic placement of the brutal bunkers also forces golfers to plot their way around the course.
Although the Eden does not have the legacy of some of its contemporaries it is nevertheless an enjoyable but challenging round of golf. After the round golfers can enjoy the facilities at the Eden Clubhouse which offers some nice, quiet respite in comparison to the Links Trust Clubhouse on the other side of the complex.
Did You Know?
In the mid-1980’s the opening two holes and the final two holes of the Eden Course were reconfigured so that space was created to allow for practice facilities and a tented village when the Old Course hosts The Open Championship.
