Prestwick Golf Club
West Scotland, Scotland
Overview of Prestwick Golf Course
The Prestwick Golf Club was founded in 1851, and designed by Old Tom Morris in Ayrshire, Scotland. The track measures 6,544 yards, with a par of 71. The course is iconic for being the father of The Open Championship, hosting the first tournament over 160 years ago. The traditional links layout boasts holes that snake through the rugged dunes, the fairways are fast, and many sleeper bunkers are waiting to add a challenge to your round.
The course has a variety of spectacular holes, both daunting with blind shots. It is a bucket-list track, making it onto the Top 100 courses leaderboard and among the best golf courses in Scotland. Prestwick is ready and waiting to be played.
Signature Holes
The 17th at Prestwick is known as the ‘Alps’ and is regarded as one of the great blind holes in golf. A drive down a narrow fairway is followed by an approach shot over dunes which block any view of the green (hence the name Alps). The putting surface is heavily protected on the sides by long fescue grass and a long, deep railway-sleeper bunkers.
Post Round
The 19th hole at Prestwick is nothing short of breathtaking, propelling golfers into the past with its stately setting- adorned with golfing memorabilia. There is a chance to enjoy the 'Prestwick Experience' in the dining room, a three-course meal with all locally sourced ingredients. Your meal will be prepared by the fantastic chef who has been 40 years in service at the club. Upstairs, there is a more relaxed affair in the Cardinal Room, where golfers can enjoy a light menu looking out on the landscape.

The very first Open Championship was held at Prestwick Golf Club. Willie Park of Musselburgh was the winner, taking home the prize of a red Moroccan leather belt with silver clasps and an ornamental silver buckle. Very different to the vast sums of money on offer for winning these days!
